The 2015 Grammy telecast airs this Sunday on CBS and one of its highlights promises to be an
all-star mash-up with Sir Paul McCartney joining hip-hop superstar Kanye West and pop singer Rihanna to perform their new single, "FourFiveSeconds" featured here:
But in addition to live performances & red-carpet
moments, the main business will be the awards honoring excellence in music. One of the most prestigious is Record Of The Year for "artistic achievement and technical proficiency without regard to sales." It is awarded to the Artist and/or Producer (versus Song Of The Year which is awarded to the Songwriter of the lyrics/melody)
and this year's competition is as steep as ever!

elph71 | TALLAHASSEE, FLI think Sam Smith's "Stay With Me: Darkchild Version" will win Record of the Year. I don't think the Tom Petty issue will hamper it from winning because that version was worked on by a highly respected producer who changed the original sound of that single quite a bit. This award is more about the producers rather than the songwriters, so on that note I think it's going to lose Song of the Year which is about the songwriters. If I were voting for Record of the Year I would vote for Sia's "Chandelier" but I think "Stay With Me" is the one with the buzz this year. People are expecting Swift to win it because she's won so many awards, but I don't think her track record is going to overcome the pop culture wave behind "Stay With Me." Trainor's "All About That Base" is the dark horse that could surprise us all though. I don't think Azalea's going to win this one with "Fancy" but she might get Best New Artist.
